It’s difficult for me to not feel like I have multiple personalities.  Perhaps people have infinite personalities, but one default.  Or perhaps their personalities all get sifted through the same spout or lens, and so it appears to be one though they are many.

I especially notice this tension within my own music.  There are times when I want to be a singer songwriter, captivating a room with nothing but my humble words and guitar picking.  Other times, I want to stand out, to be more aggressive, to catch people off guard with glitchy beats and strange synth sounds.

While The Lovely Few continue to venture further into outer space, this week I will have a chance to come back down to earth, at least a bit.  I’ll be playing two solo performances with my friend Steven Fiore.  Steven is releasing a new record and playing a few shows between Charleston, SC, and Nashville, TN.  I’ll be opening for him this Tuesday at Red Door in West Columbia, SC, and Wednesday night at Coffee Underground in Greenville, SC.

Please come hang out with us!  I’ll be playing guitar with some minimal beats I’ve made using Figure on my phone.  I’m excited about doing something new.  Steven is always amazing.  He really is.  If you live in South Carolina and haven’t seen him, you really need to.  If you have seen him, you know you need to see him again.

Join us.  This Tuesday and Wednesday.  Stay tuned to The Lovely Few’s Twitter handle for more, and be sure to check in with Steven on Twitter and Bandcamp (where you can get his music) as well.

Also, Rejectioneers will be there.

Tonight we’ll be playing our first show of 2013.  It’s also the first show we’ve played as a full band since… well, about 10 months ago.  It’s the first show we’ve played where Alan gets to show off his fancy new wedding ring, where Kate and I have to have a babysitter… it’s kind of a big deal for us on a personal level.

It’s also the first night we’re using some new gear.  Alan uses an iPad for a good deal of his synth voices and sampling.  He used an Alesis iodock (i think) last year.  He’s moved over to an Akai SynthStation 49.  Tonight he’ll debut that.  He’s also using a new flugelhorn.

I’ve updated by pedal board quite a bit.  I’m also running through a Fender Blues Jr. rather than the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe you may have seen last year.

Kate’s rig is the same, but we’re hoping to make some additions soon (note: if you’d like to help us REALLY upgrade her setup, please buy some albums on bandcamp or come out to a show).

All that said, if you’re into gear, and want to check out some new stuff, we’d love to see you tonight at the Art Bar.  We’ll get started around 8:30.

Two times (two times)

That’s how many times we’ve been on free samplers in the past two days.  We’re excited about it, and wanted to put links to both in one convenient locale.

The first, in chronological order, would be the Scene SC 2012 sampler.  Since I first heard of Scene SC releasing a sampler of SC bands, I’ve longed to be a part of it.  We were last year, and have returned again.  This years features the likes of our friends in ALl Get Out, Those Lavender Whales, and Run Dan Run.

Speaking of label-mates Run Dan Run, our second sampler is the first volume from indie label Hearts and Plugs.  We joined hearts and plugs this year, and were super excited to join this roster.  Now you can hear from all 4 H&P bands.  Mastered by Taylor Bray in Nashville, TN, the tracks have a fresh and united feel.  You just have to hear it.

They’re both free.

Happy March.

An honorable mention

Kind of like our trivia team that plays after band practice.  We’re not winning anything, but we do like the shout outs.

Scene SC gives “The Perseids” a mention in it’s early reviews of 2011.

2011 Scene SC Sampler - Free Download!

we made it!  we’re on a sampler!

check out the link, and also check out the folks we reblogged this from, and the folks they reblogged this from, but don’t get sucked into the technological existential wormhole created by links of links and compound complex and possibly run-on sentences.

scenesc:

I was working on posting this and then I saw that one of our favorite TUMBLR/IRL friends already posted it.  So you should download it.
