Since we no longer require these posters to help us publicize for our show (which was last night), we’d ask that you do us a favor:
GO PICK UP A COPY FOR YOURSELF!
If you notice these around Columbia, prevent littering/the wasting of a rare work, and kindly remove this from the bulletin board, take it home carefully, and put it in a place of prominence.
Need help finding them? Just use this map.
Also, if you see any of the 18x24 prints by The Half and Half, feel free to snag one. They’re all in Five Points, I think, at Papa Jazz (where you can pick up The Perseids and The Orionids), Sid Nancy, and Drip.
If you want either of these prints, and cannot find them around town, send us an email and we’ll ship you one.
You should come to our show this Saturday because…
We’ll have new merch!
The Half and Half, the group that made our packaging for Long Division back in the early days of the group, has made another beautiful work for us. This poster, made especially for the show this Saturday at Tapp’s with Hearts and Plugs label mate Mr. Jenkins, is simply gorgeous. And at 18x24, they’re big.
We will also have new stickers. The first true “The Lovely Few” stickers we’ve done, actually. Design by Megan Elger of Apartment A, who did the art for The Orionids.
We’ll also have special Hearts and Plugs prints on sale… but more on that later.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!!!
Hurry, though, winner announced TOMORROW (Wed., March 20)!
HUGE thanks to Scene SC, The Half and Half, and Hearts and Plugs for their work on this stuff.
You should come to our show this Saturday because…
We’ll be doing unique arrangements!
Whether you’ve come to all of our shows, or have only just now heard of us, Saturday night offers you a unique experience. In what has become a bit of a trend this year, we’re trying to do a few things differently in our live shows. We’re trying to rely less on the programs and move more towards a full band feeling. This has been tough but really good for me as an artist, which is really the whole point of this Meteor Series: Moving away from my comfort zone towards something bigger and better than I’ve been doing.
Last week we did a special acoustic version of our song Cassiopeia for Fork and Spoon’s Casual Fridays recording series. You can hear the original version HERE. And be sure to check out the original video HERE.
Saturday night’s arrangement will feature a backing band, including Dan McCurry (Run Dan Run, ELIM BOLT, Western Romantic) on keys and Nick Jenkins (Mr. Jenkins, Asphalt Orchestra) on drums/additional bleeps and bloops. Alan and Kate will be there, as well. Nick and Dan will be joining us on several songs that evening at Tapp’s Art Center.
Some detailed shots of our special poster by The Half and Half for the March 23 show at Tapp’s with Mr. Jenkins.
These are posted in VERY LIMITED NUMBERS around downtown Columbia. They will be for sale at the show.
Scene SC is also giving away a poster and some stickers with a pair of tickets to the show! Just register to win online. Winner will be announced March 20.
Thanks to The Half and Half and Scene SC!

Tonight we’ll be playing our first show of 2013. It’s also the first show we’ve played as a full band since… well, about 10 months ago. It’s the first show we’ve played where Alan gets to show off his fancy new wedding ring, where Kate and I have to have a babysitter… it’s kind of a big deal for us on a personal level.
It’s also the first night we’re using some new gear. Alan uses an iPad for a good deal of his synth voices and sampling. He used an Alesis iodock (i think) last year. He’s moved over to an Akai SynthStation 49. Tonight he’ll debut that. He’s also using a new flugelhorn.
I’ve updated by pedal board quite a bit. I’m also running through a Fender Blues Jr. rather than the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe you may have seen last year.
Kate’s rig is the same, but we’re hoping to make some additions soon (note: if you’d like to help us REALLY upgrade her setup, please buy some albums on bandcamp or come out to a show).
All that said, if you’re into gear, and want to check out some new stuff, we’d love to see you tonight at the Art Bar. We’ll get started around 8:30.
This time I spelled Brookland right!!!!
Our label mates The Brave Baby will be releasing their new record Saturday night at NBT. Supported by ANOTHER Hearts & Plugs act, ELIM BOLT. PLUS our good, dear, sweet, wonderful, awesome friends in Rejectioneers will be playing. And if you haven’t seen Foley, well that’s just silly.
Columbia, I really, really hope to see you there.
(They aren’t really called the brave baby. That’s what makes it funny.)
a looping, solo artist out of Hollywood, FL. You should check him out.
It’ll be at Conundrum in West Columbia.
Show starts at 8 and it’s only $5. Here’s the Facebook event.
