It’s been a long time since we’ve played Johnson City. It’s been a long time since we played anywhere NEAR JC! But this feels like a homecoming of sorts. I feel like I played to some of my most supportive crowds in this area, and played my first on-the-road shows in this town.
That being said, a good deal has changed since my last time through. Our sound has changed a bit, so I’m having trouble putting together a set list. Do I forget the old stuff? Do I forget the new stuff? How do I blend this?
In the spirit of democracy, I’d like to hear from you, the audience. What requests do you have? If anything stands out from memory, give us a shout. If not, just browse through our collection on bandcamp, the freebies on our label’s website, or the hearts and plugs youtube page.
Send us any requests, through Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, or email.
New stuff, old stuff, covers (we’ll try to try)… just say the word.
Your help and interaction is much appreciated.
Looking forward to seeing you at the show Friday, April 12 at The Hideaway in Johnson City, TN.
Welcome back to CASUAL FRIDAYS! Our weekly, one-microphone recording series!
This week we welcome The Lovely Few into our home. The Lovely Few are part of Hearts & Plugs (another SC record label that is made up of some good buddies of ours), and use this “casual” situation to forego their usual programmed blips, bleeps, & bloops, and perform their song “Cassiopeia” with an acoustic guitar and an amped synth. We were also lucky enough to have our friends over at SceneSC come over and capture the whole thing on a fancy video camera, so not only can your eyes rest on a beautiful rendition of a hamburger clad businessman (by Jordan Blackmon), but also some moving pictures of The Lovely Few playing their lovely song. ENJOY!
The Lovely Few are also playing a show NEXT SATURDAY in Columbia, SC at the Fountain Room in Tapp’s Art Center with Mr. Jenkins! I Think they are planning exciting surprises for it!
Some detailed shots of our special poster by The Half and Half for the March 23 show at Tapp’s with Mr. Jenkins.
These are posted in VERY LIMITED NUMBERS around downtown Columbia. They will be for sale at the show.
Scene SC is also giving away a poster and some stickers with a pair of tickets to the show! Just register to win online. Winner will be announced March 20.
Thanks to The Half and Half and Scene SC!
ELIM BOLT/Wilder Maker/The Lovely Few This Thursday, February 21. Performing at Tin Roof at 9pm. $5. 1117 Magnolia Rd., Charleston, SC 29407.
See ya.
Tonight we’ll be playing our first show of 2013. It’s also the first show we’ve played as a full band since… well, about 10 months ago. It’s the first show we’ve played where Alan gets to show off his fancy new wedding ring, where Kate and I have to have a babysitter… it’s kind of a big deal for us on a personal level.
It’s also the first night we’re using some new gear. Alan uses an iPad for a good deal of his synth voices and sampling. He used an Alesis iodock (i think) last year. He’s moved over to an Akai SynthStation 49. Tonight he’ll debut that. He’s also using a new flugelhorn.
I’ve updated by pedal board quite a bit. I’m also running through a Fender Blues Jr. rather than the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe you may have seen last year.
Kate’s rig is the same, but we’re hoping to make some additions soon (note: if you’d like to help us REALLY upgrade her setup, please buy some albums on bandcamp or come out to a show).
All that said, if you’re into gear, and want to check out some new stuff, we’d love to see you tonight at the Art Bar. We’ll get started around 8:30.
Myth, Hype and Nonsense: Days Before ‘Doomsday’: “As for the Maya culture, their ancient civilization and modern day descendents, I propose a toast (on Dec. 21) for an amazing calendar system. The Long Count not only represents an ingenious means of documenting time, it is a testament to the timeless fascination we have with a culture we are only just beginning to learn about. The Long Count is the last breath of the ancient Maya, so I suggest we celebrate — and not fear — this momentous day.”
On Friday, forget the Mayan “prophesy” — the Mayans NEVER prophesied the end of the world. Instead, celebrate the end of a wonderfully complex calendar system and the last breath of an ancient civilization. The Maya descendents will be celebrating the end of the 13th baktun, and so will I. So, on Dec. 21, raise a glass and #DrinkToTheMaya ~IanPS. For all the information you ever needed about the Maya, their calendar and other weird doomsday scenarios, check out the special Discovery News Wide Angle: “‘Mayan Doomsday’ Is Not The Apocalypse”
Good thoughts in here. If you’re prepping for the apocalypse, or something cosmically destructive, listen to this. If you’re prepping for a new age, listen to this. If you don’t know which way to go, listen to this.
consider this a late announcement. thanks Greg and Katie for its first instrument. #family
Independent music blog Independent Clauses reviews The Meteor Series, and has some flattering things to say, calling our music “beautiful, fully-realized” and “some of the most enveloping I’ve heard this year.”
